It’s almost unthinkable that a gay bar raid could occur in the new millennium, especially on the 40th anniversary of the famous Stonewall Inn rebellion that launched the modern gay rights movement. But in 2009, the Rainbow Lounge in Fort Worth, Texas, was only in its second week of operation when police suddenly descended upon it, randomly targeted patrons for arrest, and beat one so badly he suffered grave head injuries.
