This event has passed.
“Follow your own weird.” James Broughton was a trickster poet of the pre-Beat movement in San Francisco, a pioneer of 1930s experimental film, and a queer activist. A documentary about more than just his art, BIG JOY tells an inspiring story of a man reconciling his art, needs, and identity with loving and living life to its fullest. Through his films and poems, as well as archival footage of the colorful character himself and interviews with fellow artists, lovers, and family, we discover Broughton and his legacy of art for life. A fitting tribute to Broughton, who made one of his final appearances at the first Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival.
