I Always Said Yes: The Many Lives of Wakefield Poole

Sat, Oct 12, 2013 at 2:15pm

at Harvard Exit Theatre
This event has passed.
Wakefield Poole, an accomplished Broadway dancer and choreographer, created lushly erotic films that scandalized and challenged mainstream 1970s culture. Risking prosecution under US pornography laws in 1971, Poole released BOYS IN THE SAND, boldly buying ad space in the New York Times to promote it. This revealing documentary tells the story of this sometimes overlooked pioneer in gay liberation and independent filmmaking. With rich archival footage of gay life in the ’70s and excerpts from Poole’s films, I ALWAYS SAID YES is a story of how this outspoken artist pushed the boundaries of art, sexuality, and musical comedy. Also playing at the festival, Wakefield Poole's newly remastered classic, BIJOU.
