Artifacts are at the heart of historical visibility. LGBT history comes alive through rare home movies dating back to the ’30s: a fledgling lesbian bar, transgender pioneer Christine Jorgensen, gay life at Japanese internment camps, the evolution of the queer political movement, and skinny-dipping parties! Archivist organizations including the Lesbian Home Movie Project and Outfest Legacy Project collect and preserve these vital films, which are subject to destruction by deterioration over time and homophobic family members.
